All of our members are certified instructors with organizations like the American Canoe Associations (ACA) and the British Canoe Union (BCU), and many offer a variety of instruction. Why train with a certified Instructor? First of all it signifies a passion for the sport! Certification is neither easy nor cheap...you have to be passionate about the sport to achieve an Instructors rating. Secondly, the sport of kayaking has involved, like any other sport, over the years and techniques have involved as well. To maintain certification, instructors have to continually re-cert, learning the latest teaching skills and paddling techniques.

So if you'd like to train with an Essex Explorer be sure to check back and see what's being offered!

Comprehensive Coastal Workshop (CCoW) & Comprehensive Current Workshop (CCuW) - ( Jason Goldstein Steve Weileman)

Update: Occasionally, we align ourselves with commercial organizations that are leaders in their fields. We're proud to be partnering with ANEW Outdoors known for their sterling reputation as the leader in Kayak Guided Tours & Instructions. Through this partnership we can know offer all the paddling gear necessary to participate in this series of workshops; boat, paddle, pfd, etc.

However, to cover this overhead the price will have to be increased to $485/per person.

Steve Weileman and Jason Goldstein of Global Adventure Guides have joined forces with ANEW Outdoors to offer these comprehensive 3 day workshops. Both workshops are geared toward the intermediate paddlers who is anxious to increase their paddling skills and comfort level in a more challenging environment or for those who might be interested in becoming a guide/instructor themselves. Both classes will cover the following topics:

Where our workshops differ will be the environment and location. top

For the CCuW we'll take advantage of Deception Pass to practice our swift current environment learning and practicing eddies entries, and all the concerns of swift current sea-kayaking. top

For the CCoW, we'll take advantage of Cape Disappointment and the variety of coastal environments available there, and much of our workshop will deal with the surf zone. top

A roll is not necessary to attend either class, but it is recommended. Although it isn't on the curriculum we'll gladly set some time aside to help with anyone who is anxious to begin rolling or looking to polish and 'bomb-proof' their roll. top

In order to insure a quality program and allow for 1 on 1 time between instructors and students, the class size will be limited to 6 students. Cost for the workshop is $485 with a $100 non-refundable deposit to hold a spot. Full payment is due 30 days before scheduled start. Students are responsible for boat and gear, however, we may be able to assist with rentals if needed. Students will be given a class workbook upon full payment. top

CCuW (Deception Pass) - June 1st ~ 3rd; Sept 28th ~ 30th
