Deception Dash Movie Release

As is usually the case, the editing became a bit more involved then I would have liked, and it didn’t help that I had to wrestle with a software upgrade issue, but here’s the final result of the filming Jason and I did this last week-end while attending the Deception Pass Dash.

Hope you enjoy and I’d welcome any comments or feedback.

Thanks for filming and sharing this event with the rest of us. I’m curious about your software–you mentioned an upgrade. I’ve struggled with video software and would like to know more about what you are using. Since this doesn’t necessarily pertain to the post, if you’d like to communicate “back channel” that’s fine (seakayakerjb@aol.com).

FYI–I’ve experienced extensive issues with Windows Vista and Photoshop Premire Elements. I did, finally, locate a patch from Adobe, which has seemed to fix the issue I was having, but I’m still not real happy with the product.

Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

I’ve been using Adobe Premiere Elements as the Pro version was a bit more then I needed. As a note, PE has more bells and whistle then I use most of the time. My issue is when I went to PE4; it just was unacceptably slow, painfully slow. And not just in rendering but every time I changed the workspace it would be 5 minutes before it was in a state where I could be productive. So, for this edit, I decided to look around and find something less resource intensive. Try some trial versions of other software, but quickly found out that the performance boost was going to be offset by the learning curve. Then I saw that Adobe had released PE7. Against my better judgment install the trial version of this and found that the underlying engine took care of the performance lag. But, by then my system was so confused with all the different codex that, when I installed the full version of PE7, I had lost video. A quick system restore, followed by a clean install of PE7 and I was able to bang out this video relatively quickly. Too much info?

Thanks Steve. No, not too much info at all — you were having some of the same issues I had with PE 4. I was having issues of it just freezing up, perhaps I was not patient enough and it was just sloooow. I was considering going to PE 7, based on your success it’s going on my Christmas list, meaning that I’ll probably go out and buy it on the 26th.

    Thanks!
