For the last two months I’ve been busy rewriting the entire Essex site in PHP code. This was done in order to facilitate the migration of our Journal section to Wordpress, and also to prep for the integration of a mySQL database.

If you’re a geek, you’ll understand the potential of where we’re going with this, if not, don’t worry, it just means we’re gearing up to be able to deliver much more in the way of user content. Keep your eyes on the site; now that the slow and tedious work has been done, the changes to content will be coming soon.

One of the changes I’ve implemented, which was suggested by multiple readers from our site so keep the ideas coming, was to update our wallpaper selection and link it with our monthly slide show on the home page. Great idea, thanks for the suggestion. So, at the beginning of every month we’ll have a corresponding wallpaper available in conjunction with the slide show.

Now that all the rewrites have been done, maybe I can get back to paddling.
