Hello Old Friend Surf
For the last two summers I just haven’t been able to get out to the coast to surf with as much frequency as I was did; in part due to Isaac leaving home and also we’ve attempted to be a one car family. Well, the one car thingy just didn’t work out and I recently replace the old Montero with an equally old Pathfinder. But…

One of the first things I did was plan a trip to Westport for a weekend of surf. I had decided I was going no matter what the weather, but as luck would have it, I was blessed with a golden weekend.
I based out of Twin Harbors State Park, but I’d rise early in the morning, drive to a spot on the beach and setup a day camp. A bit of breakfast including a couple of cups of coffee, wiggle into the drysuit and head to the surf, which was a mellow 2’ to 3’. I didn’t mind as I needed to get my sea legs under me.
I stay out all day until the afternoon winds would drive me to shore where I’d make a lunch and hunker down in the sunshine for as long as I could stand it. Finally getting sand blasted off the beach, I’d head back to the park where the afternoon routine called for a nap in the sun, followed by a bit of coffee, reading and then a stroll on the beach looking for artifacts to add to my collection. Picking where slim but I did find a nice skull of a Western Gull (Larus occidentalis).
Once the day was up it was off to bed then repeat as needed. It was good to be back.
