A Slice of Germany

This weekend Theresa and I continued our recent trend of exploring venues new  to us, and once again we left the familiar coast line and headed towards the mountains. This time we set our site on the quaint town of Leavenworth.

This small community is nestled up against Tumwater Mountain but you’d swear you where in the Alps as soon as you hit the sidewalks. From the restaurants serving sauerkraut and various sausages, to the shops stuffed with Cuckoo clocks and Nutcrackers you feel like you’re in Germany. Europe on the cheap.

I’m not all that familiar with the history of the place, or why it choose to take on it’s Bavarian persona, but apparently the decision was based on a struggling economy and took place in 1962. Seems to have been the right decision as Leavenworth has been featured on Good Morning America and named the Ultimate Holiday Town by A&E.

Still, I guess in the long run it really doesn’t matter as we had a wonderful day exploring the shops and tasting the local delicacies.
